Privacy Policy
This policy explains what the Cove: No Contact Pals iOS app (the "app") and the covepals.com website do with your information. The short version: the app keeps what you write and log on your device, has no account, and sends only anonymous usage statistics, which you can turn off.
The app and website are operated by Cove (Rachelle Tompkins), Los Angeles, CA. Questions go to [email protected].
What the app stores
The app stores a small amount of information so it can work:
- Your no contact start date, which is used to count your streak.
- Your daily check-ins.
- Drafts you write with the SOS button.
- Your app settings, such as notification preferences, and the milestones you have reached.
All of this is stored only on your device. There is no account and no login. We do not have a server that receives this data, and we cannot see it.
iCloud backup
If you have iCloud Backup turned on for your iPhone, Apple may include the app's data in your device backup, the same way it backs up other apps. That backup is controlled by you and Apple under Apple's privacy terms, not by us. You can exclude the app from backups in your iPhone settings if you prefer.
Notifications
The app can remind you to check in and lets you know when Kona has something for you. These are local notifications, scheduled and shown by your phone. The app does not use a push notification server in this version, so nothing about you leaves your device to deliver them. You can turn notifications off at any time in Settings.
Anonymous usage statistics
To understand whether Cove is helping, the app sends a small number of anonymous events to PostHog, an analytics service that processes them for us. For example: the app was opened, onboarding was finished, a check-in was logged (made it, slipped, or checked their profile), the SOS screen was opened, or a milestone was shown. Events can include your current streak day, the time of day, and a random ID created for your install so we can count returning users.
Events never include what you write, the name or details of anyone, your contacts, your location, or your Apple advertising identifier. We do not link this ID to you, we discard IP addresses, and we do not use the data for advertising or share it with data brokers. You can turn usage statistics off at any time in the app under settings, share anonymous usage.
What we do not do
- No tracking across other apps or websites, and no advertising identifier.
- No advertising or crash reporting libraries. The only third-party library is PostHog, for the anonymous statistics described above.
- No ads.
- No sale of data. We do not sell, rent, or share your information with anyone.
- No access to your contacts, messages, call history, photos, location, or other apps. The app does not monitor who you text or call.
The website
The covepals.com website is a static site. It does not use analytics or tracking cookies. The only information we collect from the website is your email address, and only if you choose to submit it through the form on the home page to be told when the app is released. If you do, the form is processed by a form service, and we use the address only to send that one update. You can ask us to delete it at any time.
The website is hosted on Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare may log basic connection information such as IP addresses to serve the site and protect it from abuse. See Cloudflare's privacy policy for details.
Your choices
- To delete all data the app holds, use delete all my data in the app's settings, or delete the app. Your entries are not stored anywhere else, so that removes them completely; delete all my data also resets your anonymous ID. If the app is included in an iCloud backup, that copy follows Apple's backup retention.
- To stop anonymous usage statistics, turn off share anonymous usage in the app's settings.
- To delete an email you submitted on the website, or to ask anything about your data, email [email protected].
- To stop notifications, turn them off in your iPhone's Settings.
Children
The app and website are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it.
Future changes
This policy describes the first version of the app. Later versions may add optional features such as syncing across devices, friends, or paid subscriptions. If any of those change how your data is handled, we will update this policy before the feature ships, and the privacy policy link inside the app will always show the current version. The effective date at the top tells you when it last changed.
